“Nevertheless, I quite like the overproduced things! I like Trevor Horn and the bigger producer, Mutt Lange, some of that. I love the epic, huge thing as well. It depends on the circumstances, the context, what kind of record you wanna make. There are no rules – you can do anything. Whether you go to unplugged analogue Jack White sensibility, or… even The Strokes have just done an ’80s electro single, and it sounds great.
“I think people actually underestimate the public sometimes, and the public actually have enough ability to be discerning about what they like. Because they like one artist, they’re not going to not like another artist. Maybe in the ’70s it was more tribal. I think with the advent of acid house it broke down those barriers.
